Kate Davies in Frome!

This week, we were thrilled to have a visit from my favourite knitwear designer: Kate Davies. To say I am a fan is a bit of an understatement as I find her truly inspirational and love all of her work. I have been following her blog for a few years and love the photography, scenery, history,  designs and colours and of course Bruce. If you look at all of the above links, you too will be a follower.

So now you are wondering 'Where is the photo?' Yes, good question, where is the photo??? I didn't even ask her to sign my book!!

I think I was so determined not to come across as a dribbling groupie I forgot to use my brain. Luckily Kate brought her camera and took some lovely pictures and was very complimentary about Frome, which is a lovely place to live or visit. So I don't have a picture of me smiling next to Kate Davies but you can look at her pictures here.

JANUARY SALE and SPRING!

We have quite a few luxury yarns on offer just now so for a bit of budget indulgence pop down for a browse.

We can't resist topping up our colours though to keep the shelves looking bright so we have added the fantastic 'Jen's Green' to our Scrumptious palate. We love this green almost as much as we love Jen! It is well worth visiting her blog just now as she has a fantastic giveaway (see below)

To compliment the green we have also added some Vivacious 4ply and Gleem Lace, delicious:

The long anticipated Colours of Shetland has arrived and we are all planning our projects. So if you aren't lucky enough to win a copy from Jen, you know where you can pick up a copy.

Now, the start of Spring....

Rowan Spring and Summer magazine is here so as we shiver in sub zero temperatures and wait for the snow we can dream of knitting in cotton.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Yes, we are still here. The blog silence doesn't mean we have disappeared, we are beavering away in Catherine Hill and we have some new additions: Tawny Owl and Intrepid Fox.

Intrepid fox is very handsome, Tawny owl is much more photogenic but he doesn't look too sure about being embraced by the carnivore. They are available as beautiful kits by Bombella. The owl is made with fyberspates yarn and Mr Fox is Skein Queen, truly luxury knits.

So Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy your festive knitting and crochet.

The Festive Season is here! (Sorry)

I should apologise for the continued Christmas theme but here in retail land Christmas is looming large. I have got used to it's early arrival now and think nothing of seeing Christmas decorations in October.
We are very pleased to be stocking some beautiful felting kits designed by Nicola Sugg, there is a cute dachshund, a curly fleeced sheep, an owl and these fantastic baubles:
Nicola is coming to Marmalade Yarns to teach a class on needle felting on Saturday morning, 8th December. You will drink coffee, eat cake and make these baubles, there are only a few places so give us a call/e-mail  if you are interested.

Intarsia Fun.

No prizes for guessing what this is going to be.....

We decided this week we needed a Christmas jumper for the shop. I don't knit a lot for the shop as I am SLOW. However, this intarsia is a lot of fun. I agreed to do it as a bit of a challenge, I haven't done a lot of it and we are only making the 2yo size. To my delight I am really enjoying it. If only I could speed up I would knit the whole family Christmas sweaters. It would be worth the effort to see their faces!!!

Frome, we love it!

You can imagine how excited I was to see this next to the river in town on Saturday morning.

Yarnbombers in Frome, how fantastic. I hope they strike again soon.

Frome is a wonderful place to live, friendly, bright, dynamic; well I am a bit biased!
We have a quaint town centre with a lot of independent retailers, especially around us in Catherine Hill, so if you are not lucky enough to live here, it is well worth a visit.
If you are lucky enough to live here then we have just started a new Ravelry group to unite all the yarn lovers of Frome, click here to join. We hope to keep everyone informed of all yarn related events and bring together local stitchers to share their talents.
